Contest
In 2011 the world famous Japanese architect Shigeru Ban has won the competition for the new headquarters of Swatch and the new buildings for Omega and for the urban striking redesign of the company premises - including the listed existing buildings and the protected tree population on the area.
Tasks of WAM
WAM Planners and Engineers are responsible for the traffic planning and civil engineering of this major project.
The project is including three main elements: the Swatch building which is spreading along the river Schüss in a organic looking shape giving a roof to the new meeting zone by docking onto the historic building the central-plan building the museum which is pillared and forming a new public square with the existing buildings and the new production and logistics building of Omega.
In cooperation with users, architects and landscape architects concepts for the infrastructure provision in general and detailed planning have been developed. The different needs of the various user groups (staff, visitors, delivery) and traffic participants (car, truck, bicycle, pedestrian) had to be taken into account. The mandate of WAM includes the project planning and the supervision of the currently on going construction until the commissioning of the facilities.
