Starting Point
In 1994, a first district heat transport pipeline was put into operation by the Zuchwil waste recycling plant (KEBAG) on the Emmenspitz to the «Sulzer-Scintilla» industrial estate. Until 2009, further quarters of Zuchwil were developed from this main supply line with district heating.
With the closure of Borregaard in 2009, a major heat consumer of KEBAG was eliminated. The released heat capacity made it possible to extend and develop the district heating network in Zuchwil and on to Solothurn.
The capacity of the existing transport pipeline was no longer sufficient for the total available heat. As a result, the Regio Energie Solothurn (RES) was planning to build a second long-distance heat transport pipeline from KEBAG Emmenspitz to its own site on Aarestrasse in Zuchwil to increase capacity and increase security of supply.
Tasks of WAM
WAM Planer und Ingenieure AG was commissioned with working out the necessary development plan, including the explanatory report and the technical support of the municipal utilisation plan procedure. The development plan forms the legal basis for the construction of the district heat transport pipeline and ensures their alignment to the owner.
